The Roaming Gnome - An idea

A few days ago @ darkGracie gave me an idea.

I don't exactly remember what she said and I cannot locate the update. At the time I was just browsing Twitter on my phone. I wasn't involved in a conversation with anyone. But she said something along the lines of twitter and a roaming gnome....

--lightbulb!--

If you know me you know I love gnomes. I have quite a few just sitting here on my desk at work and they're all over my house. So anyway, I thought since I have one to spare, I could start this roaming gnome project.

I hope enough tweeps join in.

The gnome I am choosing is about 5 inches tall. I chose him because he is small and postage wouldn't be so bad.

Once I get the word out (and enough people wanna play), we'll set some guidelines. Two things that will be a must, first, is that you take a photo of it either with you or somehow indicating where you're located and second, that you send it on to the next tweep.

I'll also start a blog and whoever has the little guy can write a post about the guy's visit. Add your photo, etc. And of course, we'll start a flickr group. :)

So if you're interested in playing and/or helping me organize this, let me know!

I'm down! And I'm sure the other Miami Twits will be down with it, also. (And if not, I'll just make them do it!)

Will DM you with my address!

Susan Reynolds who blogger insists has to be my alter-ego.

Sounds like fun! Count me in. As it is I've been waiting for another such critter for over a year now. Hopefully this gnome isn't as slow a traveler. :)

Sounds like fun, @Fleasha! Maybe we could send the gnome to SXSW, BlogHer, and other conferences and TweetUps. Then you could do a Roamin' Gnome Flickr group.

CreativeSage, that sounds like a wonderful idea. We'll have to get with who is going and make sure they have the gnome at that time.

great idea! keep them coming.

Hello! My name is Jill Harrison and I work at Travelocity. My colleagues and I came across your blog and we love your roaming gnome idea! We would like to sponsor your idea by sending you your very own official Travelocity Roaming Gnome to use. If you are interested, please contact me at jill.harrison@travelocity.com so I can get your address. Thanks! Jill

Wait til the people at travelocity find out that the gnome will be visiting the frozen pea land at boobs on ice!

Talk about a photo op all around, it will be great for all of us!

Anonymous said...

well now... that's just very cool of travelocity to offer to help us with this project!

Someone ought to let @Ev and those guys know - Twitter + Travelocity + Gnome means staying in touch wherever you roam!

Oh yeah, I contacted Jill with Travelocity. She will send out the gnome on Monday.

awesome, huh?

Woot!!

Sounds like we need to get a spreadsheet up of who is playing and where he's going and when.

What are we saying for turnaround time? 3 days? 5 days?
I'd say except with situations like @Wickedstepmom's Princecharming & Tawain/Spain - that 3-5 days is a good turnaround for most folks to be able to get photo ops in, and move him along to the next person on the list!

I hope the little guy likes to work...I'm swamped. So when he visits, he may need to do some filing and answer phones. And if I get him later down the list rather than sooner, my Salad Creations store in SF Bay Area will be open and he can help serve salad and wear a spiffy chef's hat -- all with a view of the Bay:)

Count me in:)
